

NEW CANEY, Texas (KTRK) -- A third suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the firebombing of a New Caney Buddhist temple in 2023, according to FBI Houston.
On Monday, authorities say that Gertrude "Trudy" Thompson was charged with conspiracy to commit arson, use of an explosive to commit a federal felony, and arson.
Gertrude Thompson now joins her daughter, Kayla Thompson, and Austin Tanton, who were both taken into custody in Cleveland, Texas in September 2025, officials announced.

On Nov. 5, 2023, Tanton allegedly threw a crude incendiary device, known as a Molotov cocktail, through a window of the Huyen Trang Buddhist Meditation Center, igniting the fire.
